Entry from: Beirut, Lebanon Entry Title: "Beirut" Entry: "December 26 --Beirut Woke up pretty late because Ahmed was saying that he tried waking us up but couldn't. Hahaha, I told him to try harder next time and elbow drop me or something. I'm now in the lobby using their wireless since the one in the room is so bad. We will be hitting the town today so I will have a bunch of pictures. Just got back from town and it was great. The weather was cloudy but it wasn't raining, still a little chilly, nowhere as bad as Michigan but still a bit nipply. We were on our way to the caves but Chuck's car was having some issues, so we took it in to a local repair shop and he needed to get his oil changed. No 10 minutes here, it took a good hour or so. Anyway, all cars in this auto shop were either BMW's or Mercedes, it's sick! And there are a lot of kids that are driving some nice ass cars that they can't even comprehend the value of cash... oh well, wish I had that problem...lol. Once the oil change was done it was pretty late, so we decided to grab a bite to eat since the caves closed (we'll do them tomorrow). So we decided to do some ethnic food and went to . . . Pizza Hut! Hahaha, seriously, it was all Halal meat too! I have a meat lovers thin crust pizza and Ahmed and Chuck split a Supreme pizza. Before leaving we asked the guys working there where to go tonight and so we have some good ideas for tonight. After we left Pizza Hut we went to a place in town called Verdun area to walk around the shops and kill some time. Since it was getting pretty late we decided to hit up a Shisha café by the hotel instead and on our way there almost got hit by another car. Chuck yelled out some cursing Arabic words to the female driver of the other car. We went to a café called Copa Café for some coffee and shisha. While there we met some cool locals, one was named Wiam and the other was Fatima. Very cool down the earth girls. We **** with them for a bit and they are planning on showing us around town tomorrow to be our personal guides! Score! We finally befriended some locals that know where to go. We took some pics and they left while we stayed back for a bit and just enjoyed being outside. Finally we got back to the hotel and used a calling card to call Chris in Dubai, it was great talking to my buddy and can't wait to see him in a few days. I got to remember how much fun we all had together when he was in the States. In either case, he told me that a buddy of ours Ravi backed out because of Visa problems. I'm very sad to hear that because I sort of knew something like this would happen. I told him to have a back up plan but I guess that didn't work out so it really sucks. I'm heading back up to take a shower and get ready to go out tonight, more later! Wow, awesome night! First we went to take some pictures at the Rouchi. Basically, over the cliff there are some rocks coming up from the water that no one knows how they got there. It was pretty awesome looking. I also noticed that the Nintendo game Wave Race had these as the 'practice course' yes, useless trivia. We also met some guys from Australia that was very interesting. 3 Arab guys speaking English with an Australian accent saying mate to us, very very strange. After the pictures we went to a restaurant on the cliff called Bay Rock and took some more pics with a light meal. Both Ahmed and Chuck had shwarma's while I had a dessert crepe... yum! We also saw a car driving up on one of these big rocks so Ahmed started taking a video of it and after a while I guess the people were pointing at him...hahaha I told him to put the camera away before we start seeing red dots on our foreheads..hahahah. We left and headed downtown. Downtown was awesome, lots of cool restaurants and the middle part had a clock tower. We walked around a bit and took a bunch of pics. Basically think of the downtown as a very European area where cars can't go into and there are a bunch of shops and restaurants, very nice area. And it looked awesome at night with the vast array of lights. They also have a mosque and church right next to one another to show unity between both religions here in Lebanon. After walking around a bit Ahmed had to make a call to his Dad so I went ahead ..."
